3 Bedroom decoration project at Lake Farm, Alderholt, Dorset

In the summer of 2025, I decided to pursue painting and decorating professionally and my first project was for a client who manages several local fishing lodges.

The client wanted one 3 bedroom lodge (Kingfisher) totally redecorated and also two other lodges freshened up with a sugar soap and repaint.

Kingfisher needed a lot of preparation ready for the paint, a scrub, scraping of the flaky paint, filling and lots of caulking. I absolutely love the preparation - I find it a very mindful process and it’s where the quality of the final finish really begins.

The client’s brief was to redecorate the lounge with two feature walls in blue, a bedroom with a pink feature wall, and further bedroom with a rich, chocolatey brown feature wall. This gave me the perfect opportunity to put my cutting‑in skills into action, and my new angled brush helped achieve beautifully clean lines.

I really enjoyed the transformation of colour. It was satisfying to see all the extensive preparation around the wall and ceiling edges, windows, skirting boards and doorframes, the client was very pleased with the finish I achieved.

Following this project, Lake Farm Country and Fishing Holidays provided the following testimonial:

“Home Works decorated several of our holiday lets, and we were extremely impressed with both the quality of the work and Davina’s professionalism. We’ve even had other decorators stay at the properties, and they’ve commented on the high standard of the finish.”

Part of what made the job so enjoyable was the location, only half an hour from Bournemouth, and was so peaceful and full of nature that even after a full day’s work I felt like I’d been on holiday.
